PORTLAND, Maine (July 22, 2010) — Mary House, Woodard & Curran’s Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Service Line Leader, has been appointed a Technical Advisor for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s (AASHE’s) Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS). AASHE is an association of colleges and universities committed to creating a sustainable future. The organization is dedicated to helping campuses in the United States and Canada become leaders in the move to sustainability by providing “resources, professional development, and a network of support to enable institutions of higher education to model and advance sustainability in everything they do, from governance and operations to education and research.”
House will serve as a member of the Climate Technical Advisor Work Group, which has two primary roles: providing input on updates to the STARS Technical Manual and responding to questions from campuses implementing STARS. Through updates to the Technical Manual the work group helps ensure that STARS is continually improved, a process that will be informed by the challenges colleges and universities confront as they work through the assessment.
“I am honored and excited to be a part of this program,” says House. “It is an opportunity to learn from campuses across North America as they continue to integrate sustainability into their campus life and curriculum, and it is an opportunity to help shape that process as well. This is a dynamic time in the sustainability field, and I am thrilled to be involved.”
