Markets: Municipalities Southeast Page Header

Woodard & Curran offers the full spectrum of the firm's consulting, engineering, and operations services to municipalities in the southeastern U.S. Led by staff in the Atlanta office and backed by the resources of the entire firm, we address:

  • The impacts of growth & development on municipal infrastructure and the associated needs for water, wastewater, and stormwater system improvements, including new plant construction, existing plant expansion,  permitting,  engineering, operations and maintenance,  instrumentation and controls  (including (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems) upgrades, and construction services.
  • Impacts on water supply as an outgrowth of development, requiring a thorough understanding of state regulations impacting the state's river systems and alternative approaches to managing existing water supplies and finding new water sources.
  • The national trend toward reduced permit limits for phosphorous in wastewater, requiring municipalities to stay ahead of this regulatory curve through engineering design and O&M expertise that addresses facility performance reviews, instrumentation and controls upgrades, design modifications, expansions and assess the potential benefits of contract operations.

Water Treatment Contract Operations
Fort Myers Beach Water Utility

Growth, the revitalization of the downtown area, and seasonal surges in population resulted in challenges for water service. After assuming operations of the utility, Woodard & Curran worked with the town to set up a local office, hiring personnel to perform billing, customer service, and meter reading. Related work included infrastructure improvements associated with street beautification. As a result of these changes, the town can concentrate on town issues, customers receive better service, and aging infrastructure has been replaced.

Water Treatment Contract Operations
Forsyth County WTF

After a 15-MGD, state-of-the-art ozone disinfection water treatment facility was built, requiring highly skilled staff to operate the complex facility, Woodard & Curran was hired to contract operate the facility, providing the training and guidance staff would need. In addition, our instrumentation and controls experts added programming and panel viewing improvements, which enhanced operators' ability to monitor and trend data and respond to alarms.

Wastewater Treatment Contract Operations
Claremont, NC

As contract operator of the City of Claremont's s two wastewater treatment facilities, including one serving the city's industrial park, Woodard & Curran has resolved challenges the city had previously experienced because of hydraulic limitations and heaving loads of fats, oils and grease from restaurants. The facilities are now managed efficiently, helping the city attain its goal of attracting new customers to the industrial park.

Wastewater Treatment Contract Operations
Fowler WWTF

As the fourth fastest-growing county in the entire U.S., Forsyth County faced an urgent need to expand sewer and wastewater services. The county entered into a 20-year Design/Build/Operate agreement with an engineering firm and Woodard & Curran is serving as operations subcontractor of a 1-MGD membrane bioreactor technology facility that began operations in 2004. Plans call for the facility to be increased to 1.5 MGD in Phase II and to 2 MGD in Phase III.
