Published: 3/8/2016

Pat O’Hara of Woodard & Curran has been appointed the Chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) Energy/Power Sub-Committee, which falls under the ACEC Environment & Energy Committee. This is the third consecutive term as chair of the sub-committee for Pat, which will begin during the upcoming Annual Convention, April 17-20, 2016 in Washington, D.C.

Pat served as President of the Greater Pittsburgh chapter of ACEC from 2009 through 2014, and continues to serve as a national Director of ACEC. The sub-committee of which he is now chair primarily aims to advance consensus positions industry-wide while developing a national leadership position on issues pertaining to environmental engineering firms. It also aims to act as a proactive legislative and regulatory advocacy program and communicate with ACEC member organizations on environmental and energy issues that affect their businesses directly. The committee has made many accomplishments related to its more specific goals, such as increasing ACEC’s visibility in the federal legislature, developing a broader definition of clean energy, and collaborating with other trade associations to promote ACEC’s environmental and energy agenda.

ACEC's roots date back to 1909 when a small group of engineers in private practice established the American Institute of Consulting Engineers (AICE), the forerunner of ACEC. Today ACEC is a large federation of 51 state and regional councils representing the great breadth of America's engineering industry. ACEC member firms employ hundreds of thousands of engineers, architects, land surveyors, scientists, and other specialists, responsible for more than $200 billion of private and public works annually. Member firms range in size from a single registered professional engineer to corporations employing thousands of professionals.
