Tools for Maximizing the Water Quality Benefits of Stormwater BMPs and Green Infrastructure and Designing for Maintenance

This workshop offers emerging tools and lessons for effective storm water management. The event is a joint presentation of the NE Environmental Finance Center, UNH Stormwater Center, Rhode Island Green Infrastructure Coalition and City of Providence Parks Department. Recent field–based data on the performance of storm water Best Management Practices (BMPs) in New England’s climate makes it possible to fine-tune designs to achieve water quality targets for a number of pollutants and with greater cost-effectiveness and to calculate the benefit of practices that are “right-sized” to fit the spaces available for retrofitting. Workshop deliverables build on the recently available Opti-Tool software for optimization of performance, sizing and costs associated with BMP implementation, particularly in retrofit/redevelopment scenarios.

Jan Greenwood and Hernan Peralta present The Right Tool for the Job: Context-sensitive Design with Performance Data Unlocks a More Meaningful Solution at 12:30 p.m.
