St. Charles Wins Two Awards from NACWA for Wastewater Compliance

Published: 9/6/2017

The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) awarded the City of Saint Charles, MO two Gold Peak Performance Awards for the complete and consistent permit compliance of their wastewater treatment plants, the Missouri River Facility and the Mississippi River Facility, during the 2016 calendar year. Since Woodard & Curran, an integrated operations and engineering firm, took over operations at both plants in 2014, there have not been any effluent violations, nor safety incidents at either facility.

The public wastewater system in St. Charles serves a residential, commercial, and industrial base of just over 90,000, and the combined daily average flow is 10 million gallons per day. The Mississippi River Facility is an activated sludge facility with a daily average design capacity of 9.6 MGD that serves the North and Western portions of the City. The Missouri River Wastewater Treatment Facility is a three-cell activated sludge oxidation ditch facility with a daily average design capacity of 7.5 MGD that serves the South and Eastern portions of the City. Both facilities were originally built in 1968 but have since experienced many modifications, some as recent as 2013.

Woodard & Curran's Senior Area Manager Marc Thomas says, "It is nice to see the cooperative efforts of Woodard & Curran’s St. Charles project staff and the City of St. Charles Public Works be recognized for excellent effluent quality at the treatment facilities through operations and engineering.”

For more than four decades, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) has been the nations recognized leader in legislative, regulatory, and legal advocacy on the full spectrum of clean water issues, as well as a top technical resource for water management, sustainability, and ecosystem protection interests. NACWA represents public wastewater and stormwater agencies of all sizes nationwide.
