Tanis Marquette Elected to Global Environmental Management Initiative Board of Directors

On May 8, the Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI) announced the appointment of Woodard & Curran’s Sustainability & ESG Practice Leader Tanis Marquette to its board of directors.

For over 30 years GEMI has provided a forum for cross-sector companies and associations to work collaboratively to address Environment, Health & Safety and Environmental Sustainability management challenges and create business-oriented solutions. As a newly minted member of the board, Tanis will share in leading the organization’s membership in identifying global issues and sustainability challenges and seeking practical and innovative solutions through active participation in its numerous working groups.

“The thing that excites me the most about this honor is being at the leading edge of understanding and helping to address the sustainability challenges organizations are facing today,” says Tanis. “It is such a privilege to be able to collaborate with thought leaders from member organizations to create innovative solutions we can all use in our unique strategies to tell our stories and to drive competitive advantage for our organizations — the vision of GEMI at its outset.”

For Tanis, being named to the board is also a full-circle moment. “When I first started out as a young professional, GEMI offered tools that I could use immediately and implement in my organization,” she explains. “Now decades later I am sitting on the board, and we have professionals at all stages of their careers who benefit from all that its members have built over 30 years. It is amazing to be part of continuing to build the library of resources for professionals starting out today and throughout their careers and their organizations’ journeys. GEMI aligns our own approach to sustainability at Woodard & Curran, which is meeting people where they are and helping them get where they’re going.”

Woodard & Curran is an integrated science, engineering, design-build, and operations company specializing in water and environmental projects.
