Woodard & Curran is proud to announce that the firm has received three Environmental Business International (EBI) 2025 Business Achievement Awards. The organization recognized two projects under the Environmental Business Journal Project Merit category for its work on the Back Cove South Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Storage Facility in Portland, Maine and the Wright City Wastewater Treatment Facility in Wright City, Missouri; and our climate risk assessment work for RYAM under the Climate Change Business Journal Project Merit category. These awards highlight our projects’ innovation, collaborative delivery, and far‑reaching environmental and community benefits.
The Project Merit category honors projects completed or reaching a major milestone in 2025 that demonstrate exceptional innovation or unique technical, environmental, or partnership‑based solutions. EBI selected awardees following its annual nomination and review process, which includes written submissions evaluated by a committee of EBI staff, advisory board members, and regular contributors.
A Transformative Project for Casco Bay and the Greater Portland Community
The Back Cove South CSO Storage Facility exemplifies how technical expertise, creative problem solving, and strong public–private collaboration can significantly improve environmental outcomes for communities. Woodard & Curran served as the project designer for the new 3.5‑million‑gallon, below‑grade CSO storage facility.
Infrastructure for Growth and Sustainability
The Wright City Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) project delivers essential infrastructure upgrades that protect public health, preserve local waterways, and drive economic expansion for Wright City and its neighboring communities. Sparked by American Foods Group’s (AFG) plan to open a new beef processing plant, the project was realized through a public-private partnership with Public Water Supply District #2.
Understanding and Mitigating Climate Liabilities
RYAM, a forest products material supplier with a global footprint, selected Woodard & Curran to perform a multi-scale portfolio assessment to identify climate change liabilities and mitigation opportunities. The business leveraged our Climate Change Risk and Vulnerability Assessment services and dashboard to achieve a broad understanding of potential disruptions to business continuity under future climate scenarios.
