Partnering for Success on DPW Operations

As federal and state funding has decreased, cities across the country are looking for new and creative ways to provide essential services to their citizens. Monmouth, IL included itself in this category and took a locally driven innovative approach to providing these services, partnering with Woodard & Curran to perform operations of the city’s DPW.

The city of Monmouth contracted with our Operations & Management group in 2013, as they required a dedicated staff to operate the city’s Department of Public Works. The partnership gives Monmouth access to not only our operations experience, but our engineering expertise and government relations capabilities as well. We are responsible for the city’s water and wastewater treatment, sewer collection and water distribution systems, and meter reading. Transfer station operation, street maintenance, and all the customer service aspects of municipal services are also included in the contract. Our focus on safety, compliance, maintaining the City’s infrastructure, and capital planning is saving the City valuable time and money in addition to aiding in preparation for growth.

PARTNERSHIP PROVIDES REAL RESULTS

Not only does this partnership allow municipal officials to focus on critical tasks like job creation and community investment, our team is able to focus on customer service and respond quickly to residents’ needs. The DPW’s original 22 employees were all retained under the contract, and these jobs have become safer due to our comprehensive safety programs and benefits. Additionally we’ve worked with the city on the development of the Public Works Department Capital Improvement Plan to address both immediate and long-term needs.
